Our staff are the of everything we do

We have a team of more than 100 experienced, qualified vets, specialist vets, vet nurses and animal assistants who work 24/7 to provide holistic medical care. Our facility is equipped to handle everything from triage, pathology, imaging, surgery, intensive care, pharmacy and recovery. For more than 19 years we’ve been delivering emergency care for pets in the Hunter region. In 2021 we treated over 10,000 pet emergencies.

Just 2 hours drive north of Sydney, AREC is located in Newcastle perched on the coast in the Hunter Valley wine region and has some of Australia’s best surfing beaches.

With a population of just over 600,000 (and a University), Newcastle is big enough to have everything you need, without the crazy traffic and hustle of a major city. With breweries, distilleries and vineyards, beaches, bays and rivers, there’s lots to love about this coastal gem where we play hard and eat well.

I came to AREC after seven months travelling around the world. I got a maternity leave cover for 6 months, did that and loved it. I was all set to go back home to the UK but AREC sponsored me to stay another 12 months. Now I’m thinking I might stay even longer.
