At AREC, emergency and referral services come together under one roof. Whether your pet needs urgent care or a complex investigation, our team works quickly to find clear answers.

We use advanced diagnostics, including CT, MRI and ultrasound when needed, and take the time to explain what we find and what it means. You’ll understand your options and feel supported to make informed decisions with confidence.

From surgery to rehabilitation and ongoing care, your pet can receive comprehensive support in one place.

BIRD FLU (AVIAN INFLUENZA): WHAT TO DO

We can all help reduce the spread of disease further by following some simple guidelines.

Wild birds

  • Do not touch or handle any sick or deceased water birds, shore birds or raptors.
  • Keep your pets at a clear distance from wild or stray birds.
  • Report sick or dead birds to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.


Please note: If you find an INJURED wild bird, call us on 4957 7106 for information and instruction on what to do.

Pet birds

  • Keep pet birds indoors where possible.
  • If your pet bird is unwell, call your regular bird vet for advice.
  • Ensure backyard poultry enclosures and aviaries are secure to minimise possible contact with wild birds and rodents.

I was really impressed with the level of care given to my ferret Beau when I came in late at night. It can be tricky finding an after hours vet who can comprehensively assess an exotic pet. We saw Dr Monika, and I left confident that Beau had been given a detailed emergency examination, was stabilised and we had a good action plan.
