We have a staff of more than 100 experienced, qualified staff who work 24/7 to provide holistic medical care. Our purpose-built facilities are equipped to handle the whole client journey from triage, pathology, imaging, surgery, intensive care, pharmacy and recovery. On average we treat 10,000 pets and their humans each year.
In 2004, Dr David Tabrett noticed local vets under pressure from trying to provide medical care for their clients beyond the hours of a general practice clinic. He established the region’s first after-hours emergency animal hospital to provide specialist support to referring vets and pet owners across Newcastle and the Hunter region.
Since opening our doors as Newcastle Animal and Referral Emergency Centre (NAREC) in 2004, and simplifying our name to AREC in 20016, we’ve expanded our services and our premises to occupy the entire building of 4 Lang Rd, Broadmeadow.
Our facility includes a comfortable waiting area, triage and consultation rooms, treatment spaces, isolation bays, a surgical suite/operating theatre, specialised diagnostic imaging, on-site pharmacy, pathology lab and a dedicated staff lounge for our 24/7 on-site team.
We always communicate honestly and openly with our clients.
We speak and act with professional courtesy to each other and our referring partners.
We care for our clients and each other.
We maintain evidence-based clinical standards and strive to be at the cutting edge of best-practice veterinary care.
We are committed to learning and growth.
We follow through on our Care Plans and we do what we say we’ll do.
