Join us for Mental Health First Aid training, 19 and 20 June 2025.

We know that, though working in the veterinary industry can be incredibly rewarding, it also comes with unique emotional challenges. The pressures of caring for sick and injured animals, the responsibility to clients and the physical demands of the job can take a toll on our mental wellbeing.

The team at the Animal Referral and Emergency Centre is excited to invite your clinic to take part in this certified training – a fantastic opportunity for local veterinary professionals to build practical skills, grow confidence and learn how to better support clients, colleagues – and us – when it comes to mental health.

This educational course equips you with practical first aid skills to:

  • recognise common mental health problems
  • provide initial help using a structured, evidence-based action plan
  • seek appropriate professional assistance
  • respond effectively in crisis situations.

Standard MHFA training benefits

  • KNOWLEDGE: Improves knowledge of mental illness, treatments and first aid actions.
  • CONFIDENCE: Increases confidence in providing first aid.
  • DE-STIGMATISING: Decreases stigmatising attitudes.
  • SUPPORT: Increases the support provided to others.

The course is run by our qualified instructors, Dr Carly Perrin (R) and Artemis Horton (L).
