What’s the difference between veterinary qualifications?

We are really proud of our veterinarians we have here at AREC. In addition to their already impressive experience and qualifications, did you know that our vets continue to grow and are actively learning every week?

An impressive percentage of our vets are membership or registrar vets – which means they have enormous amounts of experience and specific qualifications in Emergency and Critical Care and other disciplines.

This year, three more of our ECC vets are studying for their membership exam. Passing this exam means they will become a Member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (MANZCVS).

The ANZCVS website states that: “Membership is an indication to the profession and the general public of an advanced practitioner, representing a middle-tier of knowledge, competence and experience in a specific area of veterinary practice.”

Take a look at our easy-to-read table on the different qualifications below.

Our surgeon, Dr Tammy Gillian, is a registrar veterinarian, which is another step above membership. Being a registrar acknowledges your experience working extensively under the mentorship of a specialist vet – in Dr Gillian’s case, she mentored extensively under specialist surgeons in the UK.

All members of our veterinary leadership team are membership vets. Our managing director, Dr David Tabrett, is in fact the President of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists, and a member of the Executive Committee of the NSW Division of the Australian Veterinary Association. He was also named Practitioner of the Year in 2017 from the Australian Small Animal Veterinary Association.

Dr Caroline Romeo and Dr Natsuko Kitamura Druery are also recognised and highly respected by the ANZCVS.

Dr Romeo holds the position of Head Subject Examiner for the ANCVS membership in the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care chapter. In this role she manages the exam questions and examiners, as well as coordinates all the marking.

Dr Kitamura Druery is the president of the ANZCVS Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care chapter.

At AREC, our commitment to continual learning and professional development is embedded in our culture – for vets, nurses and all staff.

We are a fiercely independent, locally owned and operated business, and pride ourselves on practising to exceptional standards of excellence.
